SUMMARY:Introduction to the People’s Community Land Trust (PCLT)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will give participants an understanding of Community Land Trusts (CLTs) as a way to create permanently affordable housing in neighborhoods. CLTs emerged from the Civil Rights era as a direct response to housing and land discrimination that Black communities face. Participants will explore the collective ownership model of CLTs\, the financial implications of the CLT for homeowners\, renters\, businesses\, and more; the governance model of CLTs; and the role community members play in decision-making. Ultimately\, participants will come away with ways to connect to and support the People’s Community Land Trust effort in Atlanta. \n\n\n\nLEARNING GOALS:\n\n\n\n\nUnderstand the history of CLTs in terms of the Black freedom struggle and Black collective land stewardship\n\n\n\nUnderstand the ownership model of Community Land Trusts\, especially the difference between individual private ownership and collective ownership\, as well as what distinguishes a CLT\n\n\n\nUnderstand the finance model of CLTs and the financial implications of the CLT financial model for homeowners\, renters\, businesses\, community members\, and developers\n\n\n\nUnderstand the governance model of CLTs\, as well as the potential and real roles that community members nearby and residents living in the trust might play in direction-setting and decision-making;\n\n\n\nUnderstand how CLTs embody the Solidarity Economy\, a vision and movement for postcapitalism\n\n\n\nUnderstand the variety of CLT models\, and the possibilities that each model offers\n\n\n\n\nLunch will be provided at 11:30\, session begins promptly at 12:00 pm. \n\n\n\nTo protect our community\, masks will be required for all attendees during the workshop.
