Environmental Update
2/24/24
As part of our environmental assessment of the property, we discovered an underground fuel tank that appears to date back to the 1990s when a transportation company was located on the site. Soil and groundwater samples show that small amounts have leaked, but are limited to the immediate vicinity of the tank. In order to prevent more fuel leaks, we extracted the 800 gallons that remained in the tank and transported it to a regulated water treatment facility.
Historical information indicates that the property was operated as a gas station between the 1940s and the 1960s, so we conducted a ground penetrating radar scan to determine whether older underground tanks may still be in place. While the results of the scan were inconclusive, the results of soil and groundwater sampling indicate that no other fuel leaks have occurred in other areas of the property besides the known underground fuel tank that has been emptied.
We are currently working with an environmental consultant and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division to bring the property into compliance with environmental clean-up criteria. That includes removing the known underground tank and further assessing the presence of any older ones, to remove them as well.
