A Milestone in Community Ownership
The first Annual Meeting of the SWATS Community Stewardship Trust brought shareholders, community members, and board leadership together to reflect on the Trust’s first year, elect its inaugural Stewardship Board, and help shape the road ahead.
Together, we celebrated what we’ve built, reflected on the work completed over the past year, and looked ahead to the priorities that will guide the Trust into its next chapter.
Meet the Inaugural Stewardship Board
One of the day’s most significant moments was the election of the first Stewardship Board—a group of community stewards who will help guide the future of the SWATS Community Stewardship Trust alongside the Fiduciary Board.

This board represents the beginning of steward-led governance for the Community Stewardship Trust. We extend our gratitude to all six candidates who stepped forward to serve, including Marcus Calloway and Nadine Phelps, whose willingness to lead reflects the strength and commitment of our steward community.
Looking Back on How We Got Here…
Over the past year, the SWATS CST has laid the foundation for long-term community ownership.
During the Annual Meeting, Stewards reviewed the actions taken by the Fiduciary Board since incorporation, including governance policies, legal filings, the acquisition of 918 Dill Avenue into community ownership, and the systems created to support steward investment and participation. Through an interactive gallery walk and community discussion, Stewards asked questions, shared feedback, and formally acknowledged the work completed to date.
Shaping the Year Ahead
The second half of the meeting shifted from reflection to imagination.
Using a World Café format, shareholders gathered around five conversation tables to discuss the Trust’s 2026 Strategic Plan. Together, participants explored ideas around:
- Public Benefit
- Governance
- Investor Recruitment & Education
- Partnerships
- Financial & Asset Management
The conversations generated ideas, questions, and priorities that will continue informing the work of the Stewardship Board and operational circles throughout the coming year.
Community Stewardship in Action
Community ownership isn’t something that happens once a building is purchased—it’s something we practice together.
From electing new leadership to offering feedback, asking hard questions, and helping shape future priorities, every CST Steward played a role in strengthening the Trust. Thank you to everyone who attended, voted, participated in discussions, and continues building this work with us!
