Resist & Build

From May 2–5, over 300 organizers, artists, and community leaders gathered in Atlanta for the Resist & Build Summit, themed “Solidarity at Scale: Converging our Movements for System Change.” This landmark event, first convened in 2020, united resistance movements and alternative institutions to strategize and envision post-capitalist futures.

The summit featured dynamic workshops, plenaries, and cultural events, including the vibrant “Carnival Beyond Capitalism,” which transformed The Wren’s Nest into a space of radical joy and collective imagination. Sessions emphasized building movement infrastructure through cooperatives, community land trusts, and mutual aid networks, while also highlighting the vital role of arts and culture in sustaining resistance and fostering liberation.

The MURPH, soon to enter the Community Stewardship Trust, hosted many of the Summit’s activities including the opening plenaries and workshops.

Atlanta’s rich history of Black-led institutions and civil rights activism provided a powerful backdrop, underscoring the importance of creating systems that support community self-determination. Participants engaged in deep discussions on policy development, narrative strategy, and the cultivation of transformative organizational cultures.
